IRJ-19

In the Bible, God is unpleased with his first version of mankind. So he wipes out all of humanity except Noah, his wife, his sons and his sons’ wives. After 150+ days the water form the flood is gone and Noah and the others repopulate the earth. While this is happening, Noah makes a sacrifice to God, and God sees how good mankind really is. So god promises he will never do it again.

This act happens a lot when growing up. A Child does something wrong and the parent explodes on the child, grounding, or taking away the child’s electronics or something. After this is all over, the parent says they were sorry for doing this and says they will never do that again. But as we know, history repeats its self. This will happen to every child it his or her life time more than once. But, thats just a way of growing up.

Parents are not the only ones who do this also. God also will do this. Later in the Bible it says that jesus will come back to judge the living and the dead. is not that what God did to mankind earlier? He judged mankind, and only let Noah and his family survive. Is he going to do this again, but only with Jesus? Will there really be a second coming of God even though he promised he would never do something of that caliber again? The world may never know.

  1. Nolan, while you make some excellent points in this reflection, I beg to differ that God judged mankind. I think he accused them of evilness but did not judge. Although he did accuse them, since God is an omniscient being, he must have known that they were truly evil and malevolent. I do agree that it is possible history might repeat itself because in the bible, God clearly says that there will never be a flood to destroy the earth ever again (Gen, 9.11). God purposely puts the word flood in there, knowing that he can destroy the earth in the future if he chooses, only not by flood.

  2. My friend, you forget that many times, people do not explode on each other but react calmly when they are unpleased. God may have reacted in a violent way, and some people do act similarly to him. But many people know that most people do not learn their lessons or gain moral values when treated violently. People who state their disappointment calmly are the ones who are most heard. If God had stated his opposition to the cruel, human world, people might have stopped acting so wretchedly. They knew of God’s omnipotence, and they would have been scared to contradict him.
God may also regret his decision to wipe out almost every living creature on the face of the planet with a flood. Many times, people understand that they have acted impetuously and not taken the consequences into consideration. They always bear the burden of these poor decisions, and they desire a chance to make up for what they have done. I do not think that God would destroy the Earth again because he realized the cruelty of his decision to destroy living creatures. I believe that he has learned to forgive others and give them second chances.
